Odisha health minister Naba Kisore Das’s fatal shooting by ASI Gopal Das in Jharsuguda district's Brajarajnagar may have been an act of “revenge” triggered by the former allegedly turning down the police officer's request to give a relative of his a job, the crime branch said Monday. Gopal was quoted as saying during his interrogation that he attacked Naba Das “in a fit of rage” the previous day as he was “upset” at being rebuffed by the minister when they met around three months ago.

Supreme Court to hear plea on BBC documentary on PM Modi; waste of court’s time, says Rijiju
The SC on Monday agreed to hear a plea challenging the government’s decision to block the BBC documentary on 2002 Gujarat riots, leading law minister Kiren Rijiju to target petitioners for “wasting the precious time of SC”. The joint petition alleging that criticism of the government or its policies does not tantamount to violating sovereignty and integrity of the country and blocking critical views is unconstitutional. The court posted hearing on February 6.

Mirage, Sukhoi collide in MP, instructor killed
“While it was not a head-on collision, the wings of the two jets seemed to have clipped each other,” an official said. “It is difficult to say at this time whether it was technical snag in one of the fighters, or a bird-hit or some other factor that caused the jets to veer into each other. The court of inquiry, with the analysis of the flight data recorders concerned, will look into it.”
