The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Centre is not prevented from increasing the amount of compensation to the victims of the Bhopal gas leak tragedy and it can pay the amount from its pocket, not seek re-opening of its settlement with Union Carbide to increase a claim it accepted more than three decades ago.
