Pakistani actress Mahira Khan secured her Bollywood debut in 2017 opposite Shah Rukh Khan after being preferred over other top actresses. Director Rahul Dholakia and casting director Honey Trehan auditioned her while she was in Mumbai, finding her suited for the role of a Muslim girl from the 1980s.
